At Factua, we recently launched an exciting contest asking our employees to share how they use AI to enhance their daily work. The response has been incredible, showcasing innovative ways our team members leverage artificial intelligence to boost productivity and streamline processes. Today, we're highlighting our third submission in this series, featuring a game-changing tool that's transforming how our development team approaches coding.

Meet Cursor: The AI-Powered Code Editor

Mitch Goose, VP of Engineering at GRP Ads, introduced us to Cursor, an AI-powered code editor that's built as a fork of Visual Studio Code. For Mitch, who was already comfortable with VS Code, the transition was seamless—but the impact has been revolutionary. "Cursor has completely changed my productivity and work routine," Mitch shared. "Over the past year since using it, it has increased my team’s productivity by at least 30%."

Three Ways Cursor Transforms Development Work

1. Intelligent Code Generation When integrating a new API endpoint for timezone data, Mitch simply provided Cursor with a prompt and relevant files. The AI gathered context from all provided materials and generated the necessary code to replace hard-coded dropdown elements with dynamic backend data. "This is a great example of why to use AI in code because it took Cursor 2-3 minutes to generate what would have otherwise taken 20 to 25 minutes," Mitch explained. What sets Cursor apart is its transparency and self-correction capabilities—it provides detailed explanations for its coding decisions and can diagnose and resolve its own errors when issues arise.

2. Framework Conversion Magic Perhaps most impressively, Cursor excels at converting code between different frameworks. When tasked with converting their mail tool from Angular to React—a massive undertaking—Cursor generated all necessary files to replicate the original behavior, including complex authentication flows and two-factor authentication processes. "The tool completed all of this in well under 5 minutes. Getting to this equivalent point without Cursor would be an hour or two of work for my team," Mitch noted.

3. Automated Documentation Cursor also enhances code maintainability by automatically generating comments and documentation for functions, making it easier for developers to understand and collaborate on existing code.

As Mitch emphasized, these examples only scratch the surface of Cursor's capabilities. The tool's ability to understand context, generate sophisticated code, and adapt to different programming languages and frameworks makes it an invaluable asset for development teams. These demonstrations clearly show how AI can dramatically accelerate development workflows while maintaining code quality, allowing engineers to focus on higher-level problem-solving and innovation rather than routine coding tasks.
